Ubiquity of Computers
Our research focuses on mobile multimedia communications in ubiquitous computingenvironments. Generally, "ubiquitous computing" indicates an environment where users canutilize computers and send or receive information anywhere. This environment can be divided intotwo types. One is to utilize a computer belonging to the place where the user visits as if it werehis/her computer. The other is to carry and utilize the user's computer wherever the user is.Especially, the latter type is called "mobile computing". The ubiquitous computing requires thetechnologies to integrate these two methods and execute the seamless network access.

Invisibility of Computers
Apart from "everywhere computing", the ubiquitous computing has the other important concept,"invisible computing". It means that the user utilizes computers without being conscious ofoperating them. Then, the computers blend into our daily lives naturally, and finally they disappearfrom our awareness. We regard this concept as a user-friendly computer environment. Ourresearch aims at the realization of the invisible computer environment focusing on multimediacommunications. In addition, we challenge the issue of service's level of user satisfaction wherethe computer system executes the service correctly for the user at just the right time.Furthermore, we explore the technologies to manipulate and control home electric appliances,kiosk information terminals and any personal information devices, and clarify the interactionsbetween human and media from the network viewpoints.

Multimedia Information Systems
Through the research to realize the ubiquitous computing environment, we develop themultimedia information systems to prove the feasibility, and evaluate the performance and theusability.

System Developments and Theoretical Analyses
Research must have a novelty and not everything necessary has been prepared. Therefore wedevelop any necessary software and hardware by ourselves. However, you may prefer somethingtheoretical to applied technologies. If so, simulation-based researches, such as designing andperformance evaluation of information system and network architecture, are waiting for you.
